The differences between SmartLoop and looping in BoardBooster
BoardBooster’s looping feature was (seemingly) fantastic. It allowed you appear ‘active’ allowing you to continuously share pins from your boards without you having to do anything. This resulted in great results for minimal effort and so many were at a loss when BoardBooster closed down.
The problem with that, though, was that it was sharing your pins without any strategy. You could let it delete duplicate low performing pins but it wouldn’t let you select specific high converting pins - it was a much more of a ‘throw everything at the wall’ type of situation. It was all about quantity over quality.
Enter SmartLoop and they’ve changed this hugely! The great thing about what Tailwind have done with SmartLoop is that you now select pins to loop rather than boards (which was the case with BoardBooster). SmartLoop allows you to choose highly engaged pins (your own pins or 3rd party) and decide how and when to share them. This reversal of quality over quantity is much more aligned to Pinterest’s best practices.
The great thing about looping individual pins instead of boards of pins means that you can choose where these pins are shared to - and the frequency. The SmartLoop feature suggests a 7 day gap between sharing the same pin to a different board - but you can also change this manually.
TIP: Pinning the same pin to different boards within a short amount of time is not recommended and is considered spam by Pinterest.
Being more strategic about the content you’re sharing will massively enhance your results and save you time as you’ll be pinning content that has been tested and proved popular.
2. How to use Tailwind to streamline your workflow
With SmartLoop, Tailwind have made my Pinterest scheduling workflow for my own account and client accounts a lot more streamlined and efficient. It also makes it less critical to ‘fill’ the schedule with old posts, and I spend less time analysing when I’ve shared a particular post last as looping adds these into my schedule for me. I don’t need to keep track of it as I have board rules set up so I know that I’m not going to spam boards with the same content.
Yes - it is different from BoardBooster - but definitely for the better. Being more mindful about what content you’re sharing and how to maximise popular content is how to increase your visibility to get the best results for you and/or your clients!
3. My new scheduling workflow
As Tailwind have so many great features I use three of them in unison - Tribes, the schedule and SmartLoop. Here’s what I do in the hope that it will help you streamline your own workflow and maximise each of the features Tailwind has available.
STEP 1: I add my NEW post to my Tribes - and add 3rd party Tribe content to my schedule.
If you’re not aware of Tribes - they’re like group boards but you can share your content and share other Tribe members’ content. There’s a big reciprocal nature to it and it’s required as a member that you don’t just post and run. The key is collaboration and sharing posts that will be helpful to your audience. It takes the concept of competitors on it’s head and turns it into providing value for your audience - even if it’s from your ‘competitor’.
STEP 2: I add this new post to ONE of my boards on my schedule. This is my own brand board - which means it goes to the most relevant board first - and helps with the content’s SEO on Pinterest.
STEP 3: I add this new post to a SMARTLOOP. This means that this new post will be shared to all other relevant boards continuously. I don’t have to think about sharing this piece of content again!
PRO TIP: Whilst you can have your loops set up and leave them indefinitely - I would recommend every 3-6 months or so going in and giving the description a tweak. Mix up the hashtags and give it a new angle with new sets of keywords.
